More Detail:

  1. Contract Security Companies (CSC)
    • CSC’s have no new registration requirements under Dallas’s Law, however, the guards they employ may have additional requirements
    • If a CSC contacts you, you will need to find out if they are calling about an armed or unarmed guard and then check the requirements
    • All CSC application/license requirements are the same as before Dallas’s Law
  2. Proprietary Security Organizations (PSO)
    • PSO’s that hold a license/permit from the ABC Commission or a beer board for on-premises consumption of alcohol will have to complete a new PSO-A registration
      • This new registration requires the payment of a $100 fee, which is assessed every 2 years
      • Proof of general liability insurance

Must be for coverage for the negligent act or acts of the principal insured or the principal insured's agents operating in the course and scope of employment for bodily injury, personal injury and property damage, with endorsements for personal injury, including false arrest, libel, slander and invasion of privacy, in the minimum amount of three hundred thousand dollars ($300,000) for bodily or personal injury and one hundred thousand dollars ($100,000) for property damage
      • A background check for the qualifying manager
      • NOTE: FOR PSO’s THAT ARE CURRENTLY REGISTERED, THEY NEED TO DO THIS NEW APPLICATION; THEY CANNOT TRANSFER THEIR OLD REGISTRATION
    • PSO’s that do not have a license/permit from the ABC Commission or a beer board will not need to do a new application
    • No unarmed guards working for ANY PSO will be allowed to carry any type of weapon; however, armed guards working for PSO’s will still be allowed to carry firearms or any other weapons they are certified to carry
    • If a PSO contacts about an armed or unarmed guard’s requirements for registration, and then check the requirements.
