How do I renew an Appraiser license?

Vernon Greene -

Please renew your credential at least 30 days prior to expiration and before the first of the month of your expiration. You may renew your credential up to one hundred twenty (120) days prior to expiration.

Appraisers must submit a renewal application online at core.tn.gov and a $405 renewal fee along with proof that the applicant met the following requirements:

1. Appraiser Renewal Application (CORE)

2. Twenty-Eight (28) Hours of Continuing Education

● Seven (7) hours of the total must be the seven (7) hour USPAP update course. The fifteen (15) hour USPAP course is not approved for continuing education and cannot be used to substitute the seven (7) hour course.

● A course may only be taken for continuing education credit once every five (5) years. This includes courses with substantially similar subject matter, whether or not the course has the same name.

● An exception to this rule is the National Seven (7) hour USPAP Update course. Licensees may obtain continuing education credit for a National USPAP course taken more than once, provided that the licensee takes the course no more than one (1) time during the two (2) year renewal cycle. The seven (7) hour National USPAP update is required each renewal period.

3. Fee, $405

Licensed and Certified appraisers should know that if their credential is not renewed before the first of the month prior to expiration, then they will fall off the Appraisal Subcommittee of Congress’ National Registry.  This may cause FHA and other lending agencies to remove the appraiser from the panel for a month or longer.

The administrative staff of the Real Estate Appraiser Commission cannot reinstate an appraiser to the FHA panel.

You may check your status on the National Registry via the Appraisal Subcommittee.
