I let my Cosmetology / Barber license expire. How can I renew?

Tim Smith -

If your license has been expired for less than three (3) years, your license will be in an Expired-Grace status. A license in an Expired-Grace status is eligible for renewal. You will be required to meet all renewal requirements and pay a late fee. Licencees are not allowed to use their license while in an Expired-Grace Status.

Pursuant to Tenn. Code Ann. § 62-4-117(d) for Cosmetologist and 62-3-129(c) for Master Barbers, licenses expired for more than three (3) years become invalid. In order to reinstate an invalid license, the licensee must take reinstatement exams. There are no waivers to this provision.

Individuals needing reinstatement of their license need to complete an Application to Test. Processing takes 10-15 business days. Once processed, applicants will be preregistered for their exam and contacted by the Board with further instructions.
