Continuing Education (CE) & CE Broker FAQs

Last Updated -

The Tennessee Real Estate Commission partners with CE Broker as the official CE tracking system. CE Broker allows licensees to check compliance and receive additional reminders about their renewal. For information on how to access CE Broker and other FAQs, please visit this link to the Commission's website.

What Continuing Education (CE) is required to renew my real estate license?

Successful completion of 16 hours of CE (10 Elective and 6 Mandatory TREC CORE) is a condition precedent to renewal and must be completed on or before the expiration date of the license. All CE must be loaded into the CE Broker's system by the sponsor. By Rule, the sponsors have 10 business days to upload the CE attendance rosters.

NOTE: If your license is in RETIRED status, you are not required to complete the 16 hours of CE for renewal. These hours are required to bring a license that is in retired status back to active status. These will be due prior to the submission of the TREC 1 form to request active status.

Grandfathered Status:

Affiliate Brokers: Must have been licensed before 1980 without any gaps.

Brokers: Must have been licensed in Tennessee as a Broker before 2005.

If a person meets the requirements above, they are not required to complete the 16 hours of CE for each renewal period. They must continue to renew their license every two years - active or retired. If their license expires and they have to reinstate, they lost their Grandfathered status and will have to complete the renewal CE requirement for each renewal cycle going forward.

Pursuant of Tenn. Code Ann. §62-13-303(h) - Starting January 1st, 2026, all Principal Brokers overseeing as least one affiliate will be required to take CE. This includes grandfathered Principal Brokers with at least one affiliate under them.
