1. How do I log into CORE for the first time?
Navigate to https://core.tn.gov; under the “New User” section on the left-hand side of your screen, select “Register a new account.” You can also watch a new account tutorial video by clicking here.
2. I attempted to create an account in CORE and received the error message, “Account already authorized by another user.” What does this mean?
This likely means you’ve already set up a CORE account for your license. Navigate back to the homepage to https://core.tn.gov; under returning user, select “Forgot User ID” to find your previous account. You will be prompted to enter your email address to retrieve your log-in information. If you are still having trouble locating your initial account, contact us at Reg.Boards@TN.gov to reset your account.
3. I forgot my password. How do I reset my password?
From the homepage (https://core.tn.gov), select “Forgot password” under the Returning User section. You will be prompted to enter your email address and answer your secret question to retrieve your log-in information.
4. How do I apply for or renew a license in CORE?
Initial or renewal license applications may be submitted at our Comprehensive Online Regulatory and Enforcement (CORE) website. Navigate to our homepage at https://core.tn.gov. If you have not used CORE before, you will need to create an online user account under the “New User” section of our website (see, “How do I log into CORE for the first time?"). Once logged in to the Quick Start Menu, you may apply for or renew your license. You can also watch a video tutorial for submitting a new application by clicking here. To view a video tutorial for renewing your license, click here.
5. How do I add the attachments to my online application?
You may upload documents at the File Attachments or Attachments section of the online application. File Attachments include the required information. Attachments are available for anything additional that you need to submit for review.
In either case, to upload an attachment, select the “Browse” button, select your attachment then choose “Open.” Next, you may add a short description of that attachment in the Notes field. To complete the upload of your attachment, select “Attach” before selecting “Next.”
If you receive an error message while uploading attachments, your attachments may be too large. Try breaking them down into smaller attachments and re-submit.
6. Can I make a payment in CORE?
When submitting an application, CORE will calculate how much is owed for that application and direct you to the payment screen as soon as the application is submitted. You may make a payment immediately or navigate back to the Quick Start Menu and select “Make Payments” under Additional Activities. When making a payment, be sure to select the radio button next to the payment amount and payment method before selecting “Next” to enter your payment information. Please note that your application will not be approved until full payment is made.
CORE accepts payments by any major credit card, debit card, or e-check.
7. How do I know if my payment in CORE was received successfully?
Once you have submitted your payment, you will be routed back to the Quick Start Menu in CORE. Further, a payment receipt will be emailed to the email address associated with your account.
8. Can I check on the status of my application/renewal in CORE?
To check the status of your application, sign into your CORE account (https://.core.tn.gov), and navigate to the “View Application Status” section on the Quick Start Menu. Please allow at least 5 business days for processing. If there is something missing from your application, a staff member will contact you.
9. I never received my license in the mail. How do I get my license?
After your license is approved (see, “Can I check the status of my application/renewal in CORE?”), it will take approximately 8-10 days to receive your novelty license certificate in the mail. In most cases, you can print a copy of your license in CORE by signing in and navigating to the Quick Start Menu; though. Under “Manage Your License Information” select “Print License Certificate” in the drop-down menu. Note: if you do not see this option, please wait 8-10 days to receive your certificate in the mail prior to contacting us. The license self-print feature is not currently available for every profession.
10. How do I Request a Duplicate License in CORE?
In most cases, you can print a standard copy of your license in CORE by signing in and navigating to the Quick Start Menu. Under “Manage Your License Information” select “Print License Certificate” in the drop-down menu. The license self-print feature is not currently available for every profession.
In most cases, you can also request a commemorative, duplicate version of your certificate in CORE for a small fee. This certificate is printed on cardstock and is suitable for framing. From the Quick Start Menu, navigate to “Manage Your License Information” and select the “Duplicate with fee” option from the drop-down menu.
11. How do I change my name in CORE?
In most cases, if it is time to renew your license, you may update your name and contact information within your renewal transaction. If this is not an option, then you can change your name by selecting the “Name Change” option in the drop-down box under the section labeled “Manage your license information” on the Quick Start Menu. In some cases, a fee may be required.
In either case, you must attach legal documentation used to initiate the name change (i.e., updated Social Security card, marriage certificate, divorce decree, etc.). Please note that some programs cannot offer online the Name Change transactions at this time. If you do not see the Name Change transaction in the drop-down menu, then please email a copy of the required documentation to Reg.Boards@TN.gov to request a name change.
12. How do I change my contact information in CORE?
If it is time to renew your license, you may update your contact information within your renewal transaction. Otherwise, in most cases you can change your contact information by selecting the “Change Home Address” option in the drop-down box under the section labeled “Manage your license information” on the Quick Start Menu.

If you don’t see this section, then you may Request to Reinstate by selecting that option in the drop-down menu of the section titled “Manage your license information.”
If neither of these options are available in VO, then please contact us at Reg.Boards@TN.gov to speak with a staff member who may assist in renewal and/or reinstatement.
