Filing Anonymously

Last Updated -

Complaints cannot be made anonymous after filing, and any redactions made are not permanent. Filed complaints are a public record and subject to the Tennessee Public Records Act under T.C.A. § 10-7-501 et. seq. State law requires all public records to be available for public inspection. Exemptions for disclosure are limited and specifically identified by law. This includes any personal identifying information that was part of the complaint when it was filed. Please be advised that all complaints are public record, so if they are submitted with identifying information, they will be processed as such.

All anonymous complaints are reviewed on a case-by-case basis to determine what, if any, action they merit.  Anonymous complaints can be opened so long as they include sufficient information necessary to take action, including but not limited to:

  • - Respondent Contact Information
    - Allegation of Violation(s)
    - Supporting Documentation

Each complaint will be reviewed to determine if further investigation of an alleged potential violation is possible based on the information received.

If you are submitting an anonymous complaint via the online complaint form, you will need to complete the required fields, but you are able to put ‘Anonymous’ in those fields. Please note that if you file a complaint anonymously with our office, you will forfeit the right to receive updates as the complaint moves through our process.
