A certificate of occupancy is a document that's issued by a local zoning or building department stating that a home or property is suitable for occupancy. But to be considered suitable, it needs to be compliant with the building code that applies in that area (which means it needs to adhere to safety standards).
Can we Provide Inspection reports?
In order for the county to issue the certificate of occupancy, they need to submit the inspection report. If the home owner does not have a copy of it, and request that we send them a copy, we can only provide that if they provide us with the installation decal number in order to look it up and see if there was an inspection done by our section. If the board does not have a copy of the missing inspection, we direct the homeowner to file a complaint against the installer for further review.
