Where is a mortuary school in the State of Tennessee?

John A. Gupton College 1616 Church Street Nashville, TN 37203 (615) 327-3927 www.guptoncollege.edu

Can I go to mortuary school as a student and serve as an apprentice funeral director and apprentice embalmer at the same time?

Yes, you may be a mortuary student and do your apprenticeship at the same time provided that you are a bona fide paid employee of a funeral establishment working not less than 40 hours per week.

If I attend mortuary college, do I still have to complete a two year apprenticeship program?

No. If you obtain an associate degree from a college accredited by the American Board of Funeral Service Education, then only a one year apprenticeship program is required. The apprenticeship can be done either before, during or after mortuary college as long as the apprentice is a bona fide paid employee working not less than forty (40) hours per week in the presence of and under the direction and supervision of a licensed funeral director and/or embalmer.

When will my apprentice hours expire?

Apprentice hours will never expire. They will count for credit indefinitely.
