Rule 0780-05-02-.23 (c) Changing Guard Status: 1. Individuals who wish to change registration status from an unarmed guard to an armed guard or from an armed guard to an unarmed guard are required to complete a new application and pay all applicable application and licensing fees.
What are the requirements for Active Shooter training?
Armed Guards working at a public school, public charter school, private school, or church-related school are required to have Active Shooter training. This only applies to primary and secondary education, not colleges or universities. Refresher training is required with every renewal. Unarmed Guards do not require Active Shooter training but can take it and get it added to their license if desired.
How can I request License Certification?
Send a copy of the other state's License Certification form to private.protective@tn.gov.
If the other state does not have a License Certification form, please submit a Public Records Request.
Does my less-than-lethal weapon training get added to my license?
Less-than-lethal weapons do not get added to a guard's license, but certified trainers can submit instructor certificates for approved less-than-lethal weapons if they wish to be approved to train in those topics.
